Get to Know Our Lord

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

The most well-known verse of Scripture from the Holy Bible, John 3:16 explains the love of God for his creation.   In this single verse of Scripture, we have God the Father loving his creation such that he gives God the Son to die for it in such a way that every individual who believes will not perish but have life everlasting.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 3:23

The first step in understanding that you need a savior is recognizing that you are a sinner in need of a savior.  Repentance is facing your sin and acknowledging that you indeed have sin in your life separating you from God.  If you do not recognize that you are a sinner, then needing a savior becomes deceptively unnecessary.  An unnecessary savior equals an eternal separation from God in the mires of Hell.  We do not wish that for anyone.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

The second step in becoming a Christian is to believe that Jesus Christ paid the debt for your sin.  Once you come to terms with the fact that you are a sinner in need of savior, there is only one legitimate savior and that is Jesus Christ.  In this verse from Romans, Paul the apostle, is teaching that God loved us so much that he gave his son that he should die so that we can live eternally with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit no longer separated by a chasm, but brought close by the blood of the Lamb.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified,
and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Romans 10:9-10

The final step in becoming a Christian is to confess Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.  Once you recognize that you are a sinner in need of a savior and that God provided a savior in Jesus Christ, you need to proclaim that your faith rests in Jesus Christ and the work he completed on the cross to unite you and he in a relationship that can never be broken.

Baptism

Many believers will acknowledge Jesus Christ as their savior but never take the step in making it known to the world.  Baptism is what we call one of the ordinances of the Baptist faith.  We believe baptism is the method that once one has committed his life to Jesus, then he would declare that decision to the world through a public display of baptism, an outward expression of an inward decision.
